This morning Ofsted and Care Quality Commission notified Surrey County Council of the start of Surrey’s Local Area SEND Inspection. The inspection will look at education, health and care services for children with additional needs and disabilities (otherwise known as SEND) in Surrey, to assess their experiences and outcomes. You can find out more about the inspection and what it may mean for you on the Local Offer website.

The Inspection

The inspection process for Surrey starts today and will last for three weeks.
Here is a brief summary of how we anticipate the next three weeks will look:

  • Week one (w/c 11 Sept) – the first week of inspection will focus on information sharing and distribution of a Survey to parents/ carers, practitioners and children and young people with SEND. Inspectors will also select individual children and young people to be part of the inspection process.
  • Week two (w/c 18 Sept) – Inspection timetable is agreed, virtual meetings with leaders, staff and some families from the local area.
  • Week three (w/c 25 Sept) – Inspectors will be onsite and use timetabled meetings to gather evidence. At the end of this week inspectors will feedback initial findings to the local area partnership.
