Family Voice Surrey are working with Surrey County Council and other organisations to improve the lives of autistic people in our area through the Surrey All Age Autism Strategy. Part of our role is ensuring that the views of autistic people and their families are taken into account in the Strategy work.

We are planning an all-day event for school leaders to increase understanding of demand avoidance. This event is being led by Jane Gupta, Surrey County Council’s All Age Autism Strategy Lead in Children’s Commissioning. Leanne Henderson Family Voice Surrey Participation Manager is working closely with Jane in organising the event and will be running a workshop there based totally on parent carer experiences of education.

We are inviting parents of children and young people with Pathological Demand Avoidance (diagnosed or suspected) to this virtual event to meet with Jane and Leanne to tell them about their son or daughter’s experience of education, and what they feel is the most important information for school staff to be given at the event.
