SSTAT Summer Bulletin 2024

TRANSPORT UPDATE BULLETIN FROM SURREY TRANSPORT TEAM

The Surrey School Travel and Assessment Team (SSTAT) have produced a summer update, which we hope provides families with useful information.

Family Voice Surrey continued to work closely with the SSTAT over the summer, prior to the start of the September term. This is to develop and improve transport arrangements, enable better communication with families, and to escalate specific areas of challenge based on your lived experience.  We understand that securing travel assistance at this time can be particularly worrying for families.

We are pleased to learn of the improvements in hitting deadlines this year for application decisions and travel arrangements. Also, that there is greater direct engagement with families, with the August arrangement for booking 1:1 calls to discuss individual cases.

However, Family Voice Surrey acknowledges that some families within certain cohorts have been particularly impacted by Surrey’s more robust application of its eligibility criteria linked to children and young people’s statutory school age; namely Under 5’s and Post 16/ Post 19. For these cohorts specifically, we have formally escalated our concerns to the SSTAT, and will provide an update when we receive a response.
