📢 Important SEND Update for Surrey Families
Surrey County Council has announced changes to its SEND Service that will come into effect from 1 June 2026.
These changes are intended to improve communication, consistency, and responsiveness for children and young people with SEND and their families.
What is changing?
✅ Every child or young person with an EHCP will continue to have a named EHCP Coordination Officer (ECO).
✅ The SEND Service is moving to a more team-based approach, helping to ensure support continues even when individual staff members are absent, changing roles, or leaving the service.
✅ New SEND Area Inboxes are being introduced. These inboxes will be monitored by SEND teams and used for communication with families, schools, settings, and professionals.
Why is this happening?
Surrey County Council says the changes aim to:
- Improve communication and response times
• Reduce delays caused by staff absences or vacancies
• Provide greater consistency and accountability
• Ensure enquiries are received and allocated more quickly
• Improve continuity of support for families
New Contact Details for Families
From 1 June 2026, families and young people should use the relevant area inbox rather than emailing individual SEND officers directly:
📧 North West Surrey: nwsend@surreycc.gov.uk
📧 North East Surrey: nesend@surreycc.gov.uk
📧 South East Surrey: sesend@surreycc.gov.uk
📧 South West Surrey: swsend@surreycc.gov.uk
What does this mean for families?
You will still have a named EHCP Coordination Officer, but communication will increasingly be managed through your area’s SEND inbox. Surrey County Council hopes this will mean enquiries are dealt with more quickly and consistently, even when your named officer is unavailable.
As your Parent Carer Forum, Family Voice Surrey will continue to monitor how these changes are experienced by families and will share feedback with Surrey County Council.
💬 We’d love to hear your thoughts once the new system is in place. Please let us know how it is working for you by sending us your feedback to contact@familyvoicesurrey.org
