Understanding Sensory Reactivity

A Parent Workshop with Aniesa Blore

Consultant Paediatric Occupational Therapist | Certified in Ayres Sensory Integration®

Online – 7th May at 7:00pm

Does your child seem overwhelmed by noise, touch, movement or busy environments?

Or do they constantly seek movement, crash into things, chew, spin or make repetitive noises?

You’re not alone — and there is a reason for it.

This workshop helps parents understand sensory reactivity — how your child’s nervous system responds to everyday sensory experiences — and how this directly impacts behaviour, emotions, sleep, attention and participation in daily life.

💡 What This Training Will Help You Understand

  •      What sensory processing actually means (in clear, everyday language)
  •      The difference between over-reactivity, under-reactivity, and sensory seeking
  •      Why some children fluctuate — coping well one day and struggling the next
  •      The link between sensory reactivity, anxiety, stress responses and behaviour
  •      How arousal levels affect attention, sleep and emotional regulation
  •      Why meltdowns are often nervous system responses — not “bad behaviour”

🧠 You’ll Learn Practical Strategies Including:

  •      How to adjust the environment to reduce overwhelm
  •      When to use calming (inhibitory) vs alerting activities
  •      Supporting self-regulation and co-regulation
  •      How touch, movement and “heavy work” can support regulation
  •      Lifestyle factors that influence regulation (sleep, stress, movement, nutrition)

This is not about quick fixes — it’s about understanding your child’s nervous system and learning how to respond in ways that genuinely support them.

👨‍👩‍👧 Who Is This For?

This workshop is ideal for parents of children who:

  •      Struggle with sensory overwhelm
  •      Avoid certain textures, sounds, smells or movement
  •      Seek excessive movement or deep pressure
  •      Have difficulties with emotional regulation
  •      Experience anxiety, meltdowns or shutdowns
  •      Have diagnoses such as autism, ADHD or sensory processing differences
  •      Or are simply “highly sensitive” or hard to settle
